Nicolas Milliken, P.Eng., is a Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) specializing in additive manufacturing. He brings over a decade of 3D printing experience combined with extensive industrial expertise in design, manufacturing, and process development. His research career began in 2015, initially part of the NRC’s Microfabrication and Surface Functionality team, later transitioning to Advanced Polymer Composites for automotive applications before joining the Advanced Materials for Additive Manufacturing team.
Nicolas has contributed to the design and manufacturing of products ranging from heavy machinery to automotive micro-optics, functional surfaces, and lightweight composite structures. His technical expertise includes resin transfer molding, reaction injection molding, high-pressure injection molding, and high-pressure thermoforming, as well as printed electronics, data acquisition, tooling design, and manufacturing process development. He currently focuses on Tomographic Volumetric Additive Manufacturing system design, programming, and innovation, with recent work resulting in multiple U.S. provisional patents. His work integrates deep engineering knowledge with innovative manufacturing approaches to develop processes for next-generation applications in additive manufacturing and across advanced manufacturing sectors.
