Dr. Andrew Littlefield holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Littlefield leads the Advanced Composites Launcher Lab and the Additive Manufacturing Research Labs at US Army DEVCOM AC Benét Labs. He has worked on composite gun tubes, electromagnetic railgun launchers, composite gun tube support, composite gun shrouds, gun barrel vibration absorbers, and simulated proof testing of mortar baseplates. Dr. Littlefield currently leads the Large Caliber Cannon Technologies and 3D Printed Metal Parts programs. His awards include the 2010 Army Science Conference Best Paper Lethality Award, and the 2008 and 2004 Army Research & Development Achievement Awards. He has patents for a self –powering prognostic gun tag, an electromagnetic gun launcher, and composite mortar baseplate and tube. He is a member of ASME, Tau Beta Pi, and Pi Tau Sigma.
