GKN is producing Allowables for Laser Metal Deposition with Wire (LMD-w) targeting production of Ti-64 primary aerostructures. This technology aims to replace long lead forgings with domestic supply chain, improved value proposition, and less carbon footprint. GKN carrying out a MMPDS design allowable program. A current status update will be provided. In addition, GKN is progressing through manufacturing qualification framework for production hardware with the LMDw process. GKN wills share experience working through IQ, OQ, and MQ to discuss buying down the barrier to entry for future LMDw applications.
