This presentation will review how Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (EB-PBF) technology enables the reliable 3D printing of pure tungsten parts, overcoming current manufacturing limitations for high-density, high-temperature applications like hypersonics, kinetic penetrators, and radiation shielding. Attendees of this presentation will learn the basics of Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion with a focus on Tungsten 3D printing, including the resulting mechanical/material properties, part density, and additional technical details of how these can potentially support defense applications. Use of cutting edge technologies such as electron beam powder bed fusion will accelerate the scale-up of advanced materials through AM to enhance material readiness, modernize weapons systems, and reinforce defense organizations.
Learning Objectives:
"Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the current Tungsten material market as it relates to the U.S supply chain and demand for AM applications."
"Upon completion, participants will be able to understand how powder bed fusion can be utilized to melt high temperature metals like tungsten that can be used for defense applications"
