As additive manufacturing becomes increasingly integrated into healthcare, standardized education and certification are essential to ensuring consistency, quality, and innovation. Our college’s 3D Printing and Training Certification was developed to provide both medical and engineering professionals with the technical and clinical knowledge needed to design, print, and apply 3D models safely and effectively. This presentation will highlight how the certification framework establishes essential competencies in 3D modeling, segmentation, and printing workflows, while promoting interdisciplinary collaboration across healthcare and technology fields. Beyond offering a formal certification, the program equips learners with the skills to communicate more effectively between engineering and clinical teams—fostering a shared understanding of anatomy, design precision, and device function. Building on the certification’s success, our 3D Printing and Training Center has expanded its mission to streamline medical prototyping, accelerating the pathway from concept to clinically useful model. Students and trainees now gain hands-on experience not only in digital design but also in the iterative process of prototyping tools, and educational models that directly support patient care. For those training to become healthcare professionals, this integration of 3D design into medical education transforms how anatomy, pathology, and procedure planning are understood—promoting deeper spatial awareness, problem-solving, and innovation readiness. Learners transition from consumers of technology to active creators of medical solutions. Ultimately, this presentation demonstrates how structured certification and integrated prototyping capabilities can catalyze the next phase of medical innovation—where education, engineering, and patient-centered design converge to transform both how clinicians learn and how medical devices are developed.
