Assistant Professor
UC Davis
Dr. Mohsen Habibi is the Principal Investigator of the Advanced Manufacturing Lab (AML) at the University of California, Davis, where his research focuses on Bioprinting, Additive Manufacturing and Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing. He is the inventor of Direct Sound Printing (DSP), an ultrasound-based additive manufacturing method that fabricates materials through sono- and thermo-chemical polymerization. This breakthrough transforms ultrasound from a diagnostic tool into a fabrication platform, enabling noninvasive, deep in-body, and remote 3D printing capabilities. DSP has gained significant international recognition and earning honors such as the SME/NSF Blue Sky Competition award and the David Dornfeld Manufacturing Vision Award. Before joining UC Davis, Dr. Habibi served as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at General Motors and as a Mechanical Designer at MDA, a leading space-technology firm. In academia, he was a Research Associate at Concordia University and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia, collaborating with companies such as GM, Pratt & Whitney, Gleason, and MAL Inc. Dr. Habibi holds four patents and has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications in advanced manufacturing.
