Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Manager
REM Surface Engineering
Dr. Agustin Diaz is a leading expert in surface optimization and post‑processing of metal additive manufacturing (AM) components, with more than 12 years of experience in technologies such as chemical polishing (CP) and chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP). His research has produced selective, controllable, and scalable surface‑finishing methods that enable defect‑free surfaces and improve the mechanical integrity, cleanliness, and performance of AM parts for several applications. Bridging surface chemistry, materials science, and AM, Dr. Diaz specializes in quantitative characterization and optimization of surface textures in components produced by powder bed fusion (PBF) and directed energy deposition (DED). He has authored 27 peer‑reviewed papers, several book chapters, and holds multiple patents, with over 1,740 citations (h‑index 21), highlighting his impact on AM surface engineering. Dr. Diaz has led multiple SBIR programs (Phases I–III) with NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and the Department of Energy, driving innovations in post‑processing for AM complex systems. He contributes to ASTM and ASME standards development and is an active speaker and advisor committed to accelerating industrial adoption of metal AM.
